Hello,

After living in a retirement village for nearly 20 years I am aware that some of the residents do not have air conditioning fitted to their units. Originally if we wanted them we had to pay for them ourselves, however now the village has been taken over by a multi-national who installs air conditioners, among other things, in the units when they have been re-furbished. If there are any problems with the items the multi-national operator has installed the “old” residents have to pay for these repairs and they also have to pay for repairs to any items they have installed themselves. If, however, for example, an air conditioner is left behind when residents depart, that air conditioner often remains for the next resident as it is considered “uncollected goods”.
A resident recently mentioned about those who do not have air conditioners in their units. You would think in this day and age, with summer temperatures reaching 40 degrees the owners might consider giving the “old” residents some comfort by installing this luxury – or is it a taken for granted necessity these days? Come on Fair Trading – make them compulsory in our units. Often these “old” residents have put all the money from the sale of their homes to come in to these villages and can’t afford luxury. There are the “haves” and the “have nots” in these places – think carefully before you make a decision to go in to one with the “have nots” paying for the “haves”. Salesmen often have a vivid sense of imagination and will tell you anything to sell a unit.
